SPECTRA-PHYSICS DOUBLES UV POWER OF WORLD’S SMALLEST ACTIVELY Q-SWITCHED LASERS

Spectra-Physics® introduces three new additions to its highly successful Explorer® One™ line of ultra-compact actively Q-switched diode pumped solid state (DPSS) lasers with dramatically enhanced UV performance. At UV power levels of up to >2 W and pulse energies up to 100 µJ, the new Explorer One lasers are ideal for micromachining and marking of metals, plastics, ceramics, sapphire and other materials for microelectronics, medical devices, energy storage, and other demanding applications.

“These new UV lasers deliver an incredible leap in performance within the proven Explorer One platform that yields extreme durability and lowest cost of ownership in a tiny footprint,” says Wolfgang Koehler, product manager of Spectra-Physics Stahnsdorf. “We are seeing high levels of interest and demand for Explorer One for a wide range of demanding manufacturing applications, and these new additions further advance the capability and flexibility of this highly popular product family.”

Explorer One XP 355-2 provides more than 2 W of UV power, doubling the 1 W output of the previous generation, for micromachining and marking of a wide range of materials including battery foils, sapphire and plastics, among others. The ultra-compact Explorer One 355-1 outputs >800 mW of UV power, more than double the 300 mW output of the previous version, and enabling compact, highly cost-effective systems for applications such as high contrast plastics marking and microelectronics micromachining. Explorer One HE 355-100 is a high energy UV laser that delivers a typical pulse energy of 100 µJ at 10 kHz repetition rate for UV marking of challenging materials and devices, including ceramics and polymers in implantable medical devices, and pharmaceuticals.

Also available at 532 nm, the rugged and ultra-compact Explorer One are “It’s in the Box™” lasers, integrating power supply and laser head into a single, lightweight package. Explorer One has been tested to endure bare product shock and vibration with accelerations of more than 200 g’s, making it perfect for use on moving gantries. The laser is based on the proven Explorer platform with demonstrated high reliability from thousands of units deployed in 24/7 applications.

Spectra-Physics’ new Explorer One lasers will be featured at Laser World of Photonics, Messe München, Munich, Germany, June 22-25, 2015. Please visit Spectra-Physics at hall A2, booth 307 for a live demonstration. For more information, please see www.spectra-physics.com/explorer-one.
